About This Spot

Stepping into 'Ēlande' at Brīvības gatve 249, you’re gently welcomed by a pace that invites both ease and warmth — a friendly corner where the everyday hum of Riga softens into moments of quiet connection. This delightful spot blends the comforting familiarity of a neighborhood café with the gentle charm of a local bakery and a restaurant, creating an atmosphere that’s both relaxed and quietly vibrant.

The interior is a subtle embrace of natural textures and lush greenery, a nod to the seasons outside that perfectly complements the thoughtful menu. It’s a place where you might find yourself lingering over a steaming cup of espresso or freshly brewed tea, catching the late afternoon light as it settles over a honey cake or a slice of delicate Pavlova, each bite carrying a gentle reminder that good food is also about sharing time.

There’s a genuine sense of care woven through the space — from the easy attentiveness of the staff to the way families feel so warmly embraced, thanks in part to an inviting outdoor play area nearby. Whether you’re here for a quiet moment with a natural grapefruit juice or a heartier, thoughtfully prepared meal featuring fresh seafood or a comforting bowl of soup, the experience always feels personal, as if each dish has been prepared with you in mind.

In many ways, 'Ēlande' isn’t just about nourishment — it’s about the small, joyful rituals that make a place memorable: sharing a favorite salad with friends, savoring the hush of the morning light, or watching life drift by outside the window. It’s these moments that make this tucked-away gem a quietly beloved part of Riga’s rich tapestry, where the rhythm of the neighborhood meets the simple pleasure of truly good company.

Love the place, food and service. Was my favorite cafe when I used to live in Riga. I was pleasantly surprised that not much changed since then. We were very in rush to have a quick bite before hitting the road for our Sigulda trip. Our waiter was so efficient and quick. Food came almost right away. I loved my gaspacho soup with shrimps. Salmon tartar was also very good. We also had freshly squeeze juice. Love the cozy patio with heaters and nice atmosphere.

Restaurant Review: A Culinary Journey at "Valtera Restorāns" Riga, a city known for its stunning architecture and vibrant culture, also boasts a thriving culinary scene. Among the many excellent restaurants, "Valtera Restorāns" stands out as a true gem, offering an unforgettable dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you are transported to a world of refined elegance, where every detail is meticulously crafted to enhance your enjoyment. Ambiance and Atmosphere: The restaurant's ambiance is a key element of its appeal. The interior is tastefully decorated, with a blend of modern and classic elements that create a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. Soft lighting, comfortable seating, and carefully chosen artwork contribute to a sense of warmth and intimacy. The restaurant's layout is well-designed, with ample space between tables, ensuring a sense of privacy and comfort for diners. The background music is subtle and unobtrusive, allowing for easy conversation without sacrificing the overall atmosphere. Service and Hospitality: The service at "Valtera Restorāns" is impeccable. The staff is attentive, professional, and genuinely passionate about providing an exceptional dining experience. From the moment you are greeted at the door, you are made to feel welcome and valued. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu, able to offer insightful recommendations and answer any questions you may have. They are also attentive to your needs, ensuring that your water glasses are always full and that your meal is served at the perfect pace. The staff's attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction is truly remarkable. The Culinary Experience: The heart of any great restaurant is, of course, its food. "Valtera Restorāns" excels in this regard, offering a menu that showcases the best of modern European cuisine with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The chef's creativity and skill are evident in every dish, from the beautifully presented appetizers to the decadent desserts. Appetizers: The appetizer selection is a delightful prelude to the main course. The "Seared Scallops with Cauliflower Puree and Crispy Pancetta" is a standout dish, with perfectly cooked scallops, a creamy puree, and a delightful crunch from the pancetta. The "Foie Gras Torchon with Fig Jam and Brioche" is another excellent choice, offering a rich and flavorful experience. Main Courses: The main course options are equally impressive. The "Pan-Seared Duck Breast with Cherry Sauce and Potato Gratin" is a must-try for duck lovers. The duck is cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. The cherry sauce provides a delightful sweetness that complements the richness of the duck. The potato gratin is creamy and flavorful, completing the dish beautifully. For seafood enthusiasts, the "Grilled Sea Bass with Saffron Risotto and Asparagus" is an excellent choice. The sea bass is cooked to flaky perfection, and the risotto is creamy and flavorful. Desserts: No meal at "Valtera Restorāns" is complete without indulging in their desserts. The "Chocolate Lava Cake with Raspberry Coulis and Vanilla Ice Cream" is a classic, but the restaurant's version is exceptional. The cake is warm and gooey, and the raspberry coulis provides a refreshing tartness that balances the richness of the chocolate. The vanilla ice cream adds a creamy and cooling element. The "Lemon Tart with Meringue" is another excellent choice, offering a perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors. Wine Selection: "Valtera Restorāns" boasts an extensive wine list, with a wide variety of wines from around the world. The sommelier is knowledgeable and passionate about wine, and they are happy to assist you in selecting the perfect wine to complement your meal. The wine list includes a range of price points, ensuring that there is something for everyone. Overall Impression: "Valtera Restorāns" is a truly exceptional dining experience. From the e

A tasty place to eat with reasonable prices and delicious food. Pros: They serve my favorite Caesar salad here—it tastes amazing, and the price is €11. I highly recommend everyone try it. It’s honestly the main reason I want to come back to this restaurant instead of going anywhere else. Plus, the portion is large and satisfying, which is important to me because I love to eat well. The seafood dishes are also very tasty, and the desserts are great too. The drinks are good as well. Cons: To be honest, as a Latvian, I personally don’t feel comfortable when a café or restaurant has a very noticeable presence of Russian-speaking people, both among the customers and the staff. While I haven’t experienced any situation where the staff couldn’t speak Latvian, they do speak Russian among themselves, and the majority of the guests are also Russian-speaking. This creates an unpleasant and uncomfortable atmosphere for me, despite the fact that the interior itself is beautiful. If this is something that matters to you as well, I would recommend sitting outside—there it’s hardly noticeable, and every time I’ve visited and sat outside, the atmosphere was excellent. I don’t recommend sitting indoors.

Plenty dishes to chose from, all of which have photos in the menu, which is a very welcoming feature. Might be slightly overpriced, but the food was good, and the portion sizes were enough. The atmosphere was the main attraction - flowers and other lush flora was all around.

A very nice restaurant and lovely atmosphere, serving food quite late and quite fast to arrive. Denis was our server and looked after us really well, whilst being busy he was still paying attention to us and resolved a slight issue in a professional way, very nice hospitality and many thanks to Denis! The food was amazing! Recommend

Update! Credit cards are accepted now )) And the best part is that dogs are NOT accepted ))) Finally a place where normal people can eat undisturbed by stinky pets. Finally a place where the job of the chef is respected where you can enjoy your meals without having a dog near by. Thanks a lot for this! It means a lot! Keep it clean, keep it this way. There is so many people who are actually searching for a place that doesn't allow dogs. Beautiful place, an iconic place working already for many years in Riga, food is great as well. Service = Update First time I was in this cafe was around 13 years ago, they had some times moody impolite girls, some times very nice and polite girls. Years has passed and it is visible that customer service improved a lot, no complaints at all, all staff is professional and nice. Long ago I mentioned that it would be nice if waitresses would visit tables more often to check if you want to order an extra drink or something, so they improved this as well. And now that I know that they DON'T accept dogs then for sure this is a 1 in a 1000 places in Riga and almost a sanctuary for me, I will keep coming for sure and recommending Elande to my friends. Portions are big and beautifully served. Cozy elegant atmosphere. Wide variety in menu.

We stopped here for a meal as a family of four (2 adults, 2 children) and were absolutely blown away...The food was out of this world so packed with flavour! I had the beef with mango sauce and wild rice and it was simply divine! Service was excellent... very professional, friendly, and more than happy to go the extra mile to accommodate our dietary requirements. A truly memorable dining experience for whole family with so much choice...Highly recommend!
